*In particular :

• The rectus femoris muscle on the anterior part of the thigh, it crosses the hip joint. In addition to allowing extension of the knee, it also allows flexion of the thigh at the hip.
• The vastus lateralis muscle is located on the outer side of the thigh. It extends from the top of the lateral aspect of the femur to the patella. It is the largest muscle of the quadriceps, and often the most powerful.
